SERVICES
Our Mission
The Eastern North Carolina Center for Independent Living (ENC-CIL) is a non-profit organization, which empowers people with disabilities to achieve their desired level of independence. We are a community-based, consumer-controlled agency that provides independent living skills to persons with disabilities and their family members.
As a cross-disability, non-residential agency, we are designed and operated by individuals with and without disabilities. We promote the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into mainstream society through our four core services: Information and Referral, Peer Mentoring and Support, Independent Living Skills Training, and Community Awareness.
The Center is an active member of the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), which provides services exclusively to three counties: Beaufort, Pitt and Wilson, in Eastern North Carolina, U.S.A.
Core services of ENC-CIL
Information and Referral
The Center provides information related to independent living such as: assistive technology, transportation issues, housing, and referrals to local service providers.
Peer Mentoring and Support
Staff members act as role models, assisting people with disabilities in reaching their independent living goals. Please call (252.355.6215) if you wish to speak with an ENC-CIL staff member.
Independent Living Skills Training
We work in collaboration with government agencies, partnering with both nonprofit and for profit entities, to teach new skills developed to allow individuals to maximize their independence in our community.
Community Awareness
We reach out to the disability community to keep people informed of upcoming activities, and have also developed a strong network in our local community so all people may be respected as a person first and foremost.
